Psychedelic Therapy

Psychedelics like ketamine work best when combined with other evidence-based interventions provided by a trained mental health practitioner.

Many psychedelic therapy clinics encourage “self-guided” psychedelic experiences. Healthcare practitioners may be present to ensure your physical safety, but are not equipped to engage with you therapeutically during the session.

We take a different approach. Rather than simply observing you during your psychedelic experience, TRIP™-certified therapists are trained to actively engage you in a more structured, intentional psychedelic-enhanced psychotherapy session.

This allows the ketamine to work the way it’s meant to: as a compliment to psychotherapy, and a catalyst for discovery and healing.

  • Yes. Especially when combined with evidence-based interventions like mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy.

Numerous studies from around the world have demonstrated the efficacy of ketamine for treatment-resistant depressive disorders in both the short term and long term.

  • Yes. Effective psychedelic enhanced psychotherapy requires an open mindset in a safe, supportive, healing setting with an experienced clinician, which is exactly what you can expect from MindSetting™️.

  • For the first 20-45 minutes of your session, you’ll listen to specially selected music while wearing an eye mask.

Following this, the talk therapy will begin. Your therapist will engage you in a psychotherapy session while carefully transcribing notes to refer back to during your integration sessions.

Psychedelic Therapy FAQ

  • Yes. Your therapist will be with you during the entire 2.5 hour session.

  • Each session uses 1-2mg/kg of self-administered oral ketamine.

  • The psychedelic enhanced psychotherapy session lasts 2.5 hours.

  • No. You will require transportation to the session because you will not be able to drive for 6 hours after taking the ketamine. Please arrange for transportation to and from your session ahead of time.

  • The most basic treatment protocol costs $1500 - $1750

Payment may be eligible for reimbursement by employee extended health benefits.

  • Psychological services are not covered by O.H.I.P. (Ontario Health Insurance Plan).

However, most extended health insurance plans provide limited coverage for psychological services. For information about how much insurance coverage you have, please contact your insurance provider.

Additionally, if you have been the victim of a violent crime, in a motor vehicle accident or are a veteran/member of the Canadian Armed Forces you likely have insurance coverage for assessment and treatment by a Clinical Psychologist.

  • The MindSetting™️ TRIP™️ protocol is the best treatment for depression. The results of our first study (N=10) showed a 46.9% reduction in self-report measures of severity of depression.

Ketamine has antidepressant effects that outlast the effects of the medication. Single doses of ketamine result in a reduction in severity of depression and suicidal ideation lasting for days to weeks depending upon the dosage and route of administration.

  • In most cases there is no need to stop current prescribed medications.

Ketamine enhances psychological therapies and is therefore only part of a holistic treatment protocol. Low doses of ketamine can be safely added to an existing medication regime.

  • The number of psychedelic enhanced psychotherapy sessions needed depends on each patient’s unique circumstances.

It is common for patients to require more than one session to fully reach their mental health goals.

  • Psilocybin and ketamine therapies often involve similar protocols, but since they are different molecules, they often lead to different experiences. They differ in available routes of administration as well as duration of psychoactive and antidepressant effects.

Ketamine works on the glutamate system. We know that it has its hypnotic effect by blocking NMDA and HCN1 receptors, but we do not fully understand the mechanisms behind ketamine’s positive effects on chronic pain and depression.

One hypothesis is that ketamine treatment results in increased communication between existing neurons and the growth of new ones. This relates to the neuroplasticity theory of psychedelic therapies.

Another theory which applies to both ketamine and psilocybin is that of decreased activity in parts of the brain collectively known as the default mode network.

Psilocybin has been shown to decrease blood flow in parts of the brain associated with processing sensory and emotional information, as well as self-referential activities.

Ketamine and psilocybin both seem to enhance insight, decrease emotional reactivity to stress, and yield lasting antidepressant and anxiolytic results.
